Little girl enjoying on a warm summer day

5 Tips to Help You Prepare Your Child for Summer Daycare in Pickering & Ajax

People all over Pickering and Ajax are gearing up for another great summer. But life doesn’t slow down for the warmer weather. And for many families, it can be difficult to balance work and life and keep your little ones entertained at the same time. Summer day camp is a great way to keep your child engaged while you get things done. Here are five tips you can use to get your child ready for daycare this summer.

1. Visit the Daycare Beforehand

Before your child’s first day, try to visit the centre at least once so they know just what to expect. A quick visit before their first day will make everything seem more familiar and can go a long way in easing their apprehension and making them more comfortable when it comes time to wave goodbye.

2. Talk to Your Child

In addition to planning a visit to the daycare, let your child know what they can expect while they’re there. Talk to them about drop off and pick up times, some of the things they’ll do throughout the day and how to interact with the other children and the instructors.

3. Choosing Appropriate Clothing

While your child is looking forward to a hot summer afternoon at the park, it’s important to remember how chilly mornings can be. Help your child choose clothing that will be appropriate for the changes in weather that occur throughout the day. That means light clothing layered with pieces they can remove as the day heats up.

4. Wear Sunscreen

Talk to your child about the dangers of getting too much sun and the importance of wearing sunscreen. You can apply sunscreen in the morning before they come to daycare and pack an extra bottle in their backpack to give them all day protection.

5. Stay Hydrated by Drinking Water

You should also talk to your child about the dangers and symptoms of dehydration. Many children are unable to tell the difference between feelings of hunger and feelings of thirst so you should explain to them how important it is to drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially when they’ve been playing outdoors.
